Brest Oblast delegation visiting Russia’s Irkutsk Oblast

09/12/2024 14:25

BREST, 9 December (BelTA) – The 9th meeting of the working group on cooperation between Belarus and Irkutsk Oblast of Russia is taking place in Irkutsk on 9 December, BelTA learned from the Brest Oblast Executive Committee.

The working group is co-chaired by Brest Oblast Governor Piotr Parkhomchik (he is responsible for coordinating cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the Russian region).

Belarus and Irkutsk Oblast have been steadily ramping up cooperation in various sectors since 2016. Piotr Parkhomchik expressed confidence that the potential for expanding trade and economic partnership has not been fully utilized.

The Belarusian delegation visiting Russia is quite big. “The delegation includes heads of large industrial enterprises, representatives of small and medium-sized businesses, heads of districts of Brest Oblast. We believe that inter-regional ties are a solid, reliable foundation for relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation,” the Brest Oblast governor emphasized. In particular, the most promising avenues of cooperation are believed to be aircraft engineering, mechanical engineering and supplies of food and agricultural raw materials.

During the meeting of the working group, Belarusians and Russians will take stock of the interim results of cooperation, thrash out plans for the future, and sign agreements on inter-regional cooperation. The Belarusian delegation will visit a number of enterprises and take part in a business match-making session with Irkutsk Oblast companies.
